Background:
Dr. Kjell Dahlen is the president of the corporation. He came to Plattsburgh and bought a small practice in 1978. The practice later moved to its present location and he recruited a partner. His partner and company vice-president is Dr. Benjamin (Jerry) Vilbert.

Our professional staff presently includes 5 ophthalmologists and 4 optometrists. Our 80 + employees staff the main office in Plattsburgh or other offices in Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, and Malone, NY that cover Clinton, Essex, and Franklin counties. Each office location has a full service optical. The Saranac Lake location opened in 1997; expansion to Lake Placid in 1999 (a well established optometry practice), Malone in 2000 (a well established ophthalmology practice). We also hold regular clinics in Tupper Lake and Elizabethtown, NY and we visit 3 outlying nursing homes several times each year so patients don't have to travel for eye care. Most recently we started a retina service, October 2002.

The main facility occupies approximately 15,700 square feet quite literally on the shore of beautiful Lake Champlain. It has 20 Haag-Streit equipped lanes, TOPCON digital IMAGEnet photography system, OCT nerve fiber technology, Yag, Argon, SLT and Excimer (VISX Star 3) lasers, supported by JCAHPO certified technicians and a very fine optical dispensary.

The Medicare & AAAHC certified ambulatory surgery center has 2 operating suites, sterilization room, pre and post operative waiting areas (an additional 3,300 square feet) where 1200-1300 cataract surgeries are performed each year.

Plattsburgh, NY is a state university town located in Clinton County. Plattsburgh is located 50 miles east of Lake Placid, 60 miles south of Montreal, Canada, 350 miles north of New York City and 150 miles north of the capital district in Albany. The population in Clinton County is 86,000. Median family income is $32,000 per year with a household size of 2.7 people. Precipitation is 41" per year - snowfall is 63" per year. The area has four definite seasons with many opportunities to enjoy the beautiful Adirondack Mountains at any time of the year.
